During my few days in D.C. I wanted to eat some decent, normal food, instead of only fastfood. As someone who’s been getting more and more interested by Scandinavia and its culture, it seemed like the perfect place to dine. Located in a rather cute part of the city, you’ll find this small restaurant with a great choice of Scandinavian dishes and beverages. I started off with an Aalborg Akvavit aperitif, before getting to my main dessert, a chicken schnitzel. The apparent owner of the restaurant, who is Finnish herself, suggested the Date Cake as a dessert. All of it was served pretty fast, and I loved it all. Nothing too fancy, just what you would expect of it. If you’re looking for something ‘different’ after all the fastfood, make sure to check this place out.

I was so excited to check this place upon arrival to Washington DC because of my love to Nordic food. I ordered pan seared salmon and it was so sooo delicious! Next day I returned to order it again! The place itself so atmospheric and vibrant, and it was so wonderful to seat outside.

Friendly staff. Good drinks. Limited but unique menu. Nice European atmosphere. Has a little store of authentic goodies and treats to enjoy too.

I love Nordic food, so was excited to try Mikko on a recent trip to Washington. This is a fun restaurant just behind Dupont Circle. There is no indoor seating, but the outdoor space is colorful and fun on a summer evening. We shared their pickled herring small plate, which was truly excellent. The entrées were a little disappointing. The lamb burger, chicken schnitzel and salmon were all fine, but didn't seem particularly Nordic. I'd love to have main dishes that I couldn't find elsewhere and had the unique flavors of Scandinavian. Overall, good food but a little mainstream. But the cocktails were great.
Quite authentic and delicious Nordic food! We hadn’t had traditional pannkakor for a long time, other than at home, and they were great!
