Good food and service. Cute decor. Ordered more than I should have! The nachos are delicious and the portion is huge. The jumbo shrimp were indeed large and filling. Was a little underwhelmed by the fish taco. Not sure if it was the batter or seasoning that was meh. My margarita was very good.

A solid neighbhood joint with pretty good food. I tried the seasonal guacamole tonight which contained bacon and grilled pineapple. Not bad! Guac could use a little salt though. The shrimp and crispy fish tacos were good, too. The spicy margarita wasn’t too spicy. For those complaining that this isn’t “authentic” Mexican food, I feel like you need to reset your expectations about Mexican food in DC in general. This is a fun place with good food. The service is nice enough though a little slow at times. The food came out all at once so that was annoying.

Had a nice bike ride and wanted to get an early dinner. I sat at the bar and Jasmine the bartender, had great customer service and a banging margarita. All the staff was friendly and my food came out in a timely manner. That Mexican street corn😘. Definitely go check them out.

Mexicue is easily one of my favorite spots in all of DC, the food is always amazing, ambiance is casual, and service is great! They have an awesome happy hour too with $7 margaritas. I haven’t been disappointed by any food items I’ve tried in my 3 visits. Tacos are great too. Pro tip: order the cornbread and the spicy jalapeño margarita. Definitely worth a visit!

AVOID AVOID AVOID - do not waste your money here! First things first, AC was broken inside and they did not have nearly enough fans to make up for it. Super uncomfortable dining experience which I was willing to put up with since my friends wanted to sit inside after it had rained. Upon our being seated at our table, we were immediately asked what cocktails we wanted which would normally be fine except the fact after that initial contact with our waiter, quality of service drastically fell off and we had to get his attention to order main dishes and more drinks. I’m not sure if we were seated at a bar high top because our server also doubled as a bartender. This seems unfair to both the staff and the guests who are seated at those high tops. The food: I’ll start with the good. The nachos are fine. There are a lot of chips which is good for sharing but I’m not going out of my way for them again. Now onto the bad. For me, the theme of this restaurant is confusing. Okay Mexican food I get. But the American BBQ side is really lacking in both menu options and execution. The biggest offense committed in my eyes is what they try and pass off as BBQ brisket. Firstly, it’s not really very tender which is disappointing. Secondly, it doesn’t taste like BBQ since it wasn’t smoked at all, thirdly it was so damn sweet and just tasted like they threw a brisket in the oven covered in Sweet Baby Rays (or maybe a worse sauce since I don’t want to slander one of my favorites). Another major disappointment of mine was the “burrito” which was not wrapped like a burrito at all, no effort given whatsoever (please see my picture) I ended up eating it with a fork and knife. Okay whatever that is fine. What was not okay was that in my chicken and chorizo burrito, about 95% of that was rice and beans. I found maybe one piece of chicken in the entire burrito. For the price they are charging, this is the biggest rip off on 14th street. In addition, the rice is undercooked which is just sad. I’ve heard this compliant from everyone I’ve known who had come to this restaurant. The interior is designed nicely but who the hell cares when it is understaffed, uncomfortable, and not serving high quality food that is fairly portioned and priced. I know running a restaurant is difficult let alone on 14th street in the heart of D.C. but please have some respect for your customers.
